Good Beer Week at Carwyn Cellars

Happy Good Beer Week one and all!! It’s our favourite week of the year, rivaled only by Canvent season. The Melbourne beer world will not sleep til Monday and we are busy pumping out some of the best brews from America, our PINT OF ORIGIN! We are delighted with our week’s tap line up full of The Bruery, Jester King, Fonta Flora, Oxbow, Alesong, AleSmith, Firestone Walker, Mother Earth, Jolly Pumpkin, Deschutes, Toppling & Goliath, Adroit Theory, Against the Grain, Black Project, Funk Factory, Parish, Equilibrium, SingleCut *catches our breath*.
But that’s not all. For the first time ever seen in Australia, we are proud to present Noble Ale Works and Green Cheek! This is a big deal, and we’ve airfreighted these premiers in so that our patrons can experience them as fresh as if they were at the brewery itself. Allow us transport you to America via your senses.
Noble Ale Works (CA) Airfreight Showcase – Wednesday, 19 May 2021
Some go to Anaheim for Disneyland, some go to sing ‘take me out to the ball game’ at Angel Stadium, some go to root for the Ducks shooting pucks across the ice. Us? We go for the breweries. Since 2011 when Noble Ale Works began releasing their brews, they have taken home awards aplenty from prestigious competitions such as the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup.
Wanna know how fresh the beer that we’re getting is? Noble released their collaboration with Ireland’s Heaney Brewery, a 8.0% Imperial Red Ale, at their Anaheim home on May 5th and cans of it will be in our shop tomorrow, May 19th! Hot damn that’s fresh! Alongside this newbie we’re bringing in kegs of a few of the beers that put Noble Ale Works on the map including their aptly named Nose Candy Session IPA, Big Whig West Coast IPA, and Naughty Sauce Golden Milk Stout.
Green Cheek (CA) Airfreight Australian Launch – Thursday, 20 May 2021
The Bens had the pleasure of meeting Greek Cheek Brewmaster, Evan Price, at Matt Brynildson’s pre-Firestone Walker Invitational party. The following day at the festival, the Green Cheek tent kept them well-watered with delicious brews, a mate-ship was formed, and they’ve been talking about them and their award-winning beers ever since.
Green Cheek was founded by Price, a self-professed horrible home brewer turned award winning Brewmaster, and his business partner Brian Rauso, who also comes with a background in the brewery management. Together they bought out a brewery in Orange, CA that was closing its doors, along with all its equipment and started up Green Cheek in 2017. In 2020 they announced that they were in the works to open a second location in Costa Mesa, CA.
IPA’s are Price’s pedigree, and we’ll be bringing a few of them to our Thornbury taps, but that’s not all Green Cheek is known for, so we’re also showcasing a Berliner Weisse and a Dark, Munich-style Lager that just so happens to be a collab with the hazy big dogs, Other Half.
Needless to say, we are stoked to showcase both these breweries this GBW. Whether you will be there in person, or spirit, throw your pint in the hair and shout ‘Cheers’ in celebration of all these breweries have to offer. South of LA has never looked so good!
